Digital transformation in geotechnical engineering. From measured values to added value in real time?

Geotechnical engineering is evolving into a data-driven business. Data storage in digital twins is being used on construction sites around the world. Digital interfaces are used to exchange data between construction equipment manufacturers and construction companies. Where does specialized civil engineering stand today? Which applications have become established? How automated are processes today? How far are we from the “live construction site,” and do we still need engineers, or will the “human in the loop” soon be obsolete? 

Marcus Daubner

Marcus Daubner is a civil engineer and has been working in special civil engineering for many years. After studying at the Technical University of Munich, he initially worked in bridge construction before joining BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH in 2003. There he took on various roles, including in the mechanical engineering department for diaphragm wall and grouting equipment and as head of the special techniques and construction methods department. 

Today, as Head of Digitalization and AI, he is responsible for the strategic development of digital technologies in special civil engineering. His focus is on data-driven construction processes, the integration of modern machine technology, and the practical application of artificial intelligence on the construction site.
